"The Islands' at Sonachan

Remember 'THE ISLANDS' are playing in SONACHAN on Sat night guys, Sat 7th Jan 2012, no entry fee......well it is January! :)

Donald MacDonald and the Islands are having a wee rehearsal gig in Sonachan on Saturday the 7th January 2011 at 8pm in preparation for their Celtic Connections gig in the Oran Mor, Glasgow, on Sat 21th Jan 2012. Come along and hear them and you won’t be disappointed.

They are a five piece alternative folk band that have made a big impact on the live music scene in the short time they have been together. They have already appeared at festivals such as Belladrum, Isle of Wedge, Skye, and have played in the Ironworks Inverness & ABC Glasgow, supported the likes of Mylo, Diana Vickers, skerryvore, coast, niteworks and of course they played Sonafest 2011 where they went down a storm. The boys describe their music as ‘Celtic, folk, Indie’ and influences are listed as Gaelic, Rock and Roll, folk, soul, motown, blues & Americana. You can hear the influence of their highland roots in their rocky, bluesy tunes. The amount of energy they produce in their live shows is so infectious they soon have the whole place rocking.

The band, who are Glasgow based, hail from Ardnamurchan, Contin, Dingwall and the Black Isle. They met up somewhere between Uni and games of Shinty, got together for a few tunes and ‘The Islands’ came to fruition.

The band are made up of:
- singer songwriter Donald MacDonald on vocals, guitar and mouth organ.
- Allan Nairn on 5 row button box.
- Alexander MacGregor, Cajon box & percussion.
- Marc Tierney, bass.
- Calum MacInness, banjo, melodica & ukulele

You can get a copy of their EP on www.islandsofficial.co.uk - it's is well worth a listen. A couple of weeks ago their single ‘blown away’ was played on Radio One!

Helen.
