We have 4 more inspiring physics workshops planned to take place in West Ardnamurchan, between July and November - this is thanks to a small grant which we received from the Institute of Physics.
The first workshop is all about the tides and what causes them, and it will be taking place on Sanna beach on Thursday 12 July, from 6 until 8pm. The workshop is designed for adults but interested youngsters over the age of 10 are welcome, as long as they are accompanied by a responsible adult. Weather permitting we will have a small bonfire and refreshments for the participants. The fee for adults is £2.50 and under 16s, £1.50. Please let me know as soon as possible if you want to book places as numbers are limited. The workshop will be led by Anna Wright. I will send out details of exact location, etc, to participants a few days before the workshop.
The other workshops will be on optics (August at the Lighthouse), subatomic particles (September at the Learning Centre), and astronomy (November at the Learning Centre), and we are especially pleased to announce that we will have speakers who have worked at CERN of Hadron Collider fame (Prof Peter Clarke), and NASA (Prof Martin Hendry), respectively, leading the last two sessions for us. These speakers are both members of the Royal Society in Edinburgh and their trip to Kilchoan is being funded by the RSE Lochaber initiative.
